What is in this deck

With this deck you learn Spanish at level C1: 315 cards with full sentences, plus pronunciation, a note on the form and two words from the same context.

At C1 the rules are known; what is missing is the polish. These 315 cards take on the places where even practised speakers stumble: the subjunctive beyond the rules of thumb, the preposition a verb insists on, word formation, and the four verbs echar, dar, poner and meter with their dozens of senses.

Three further fields concern tone: how a text is held together, how politeness and irony sound, how a formal phrase is built. To that come the Spanish of the Americas and the proverbs.

The back gives the pronunciation, a note explaining the point, and two related expressions.

The categories decide what comes up: start with “The subjunctive in detail” alone and add the rest when you are ready.

You learn Spanish. The cards, the categories and the usage notes are in English, so you never have to learn through a third language.

What you learn

  • The subjunctive where rules of thumb stop helping
  • Verbs and their prepositions: pensar en, soñar con
  • Word formation: -dad, -aje, -miento, diminutives
  • echar, dar, poner, meter and their many faces
  • Spanish in the Americas and the traps for the practised

What you get

Here are three of the 315 cards you get when you buy the deck.

With foreign-language content the answers are read aloud as well, so you know how the words and sentences are pronounced.

  1. Question

Not that I do not want to.

    Answer

    No es que no quiera.

    Note

[no es ke no ˈkjeɾa] · no es que always takes the subjunctive · Word field: no porque (not because), matizar (to qualify)

  2. Question

    He may already know.

    Answer

    Puede que ya lo sepa.

    Note

[ˈpweðe ke] · puede que without a pronoun, with the subjunctive · Word field: quizá (perhaps), a lo mejor (maybe)

  3. Question

Maybe she is coming, who knows.

    Answer

A lo mejor viene, quién sabe.

    Note

[a lo meˈxoɾ] · a lo mejor is the one that takes the indicative · Word field: tal vez (perhaps), acaso (by any chance)

Learning with Qardbox

You see a card, you think, you turn it over and say whether you knew it. A round asks nothing more of you, and how the app works out the next date from that is on the page about FSRS-6.

What sits comes back less often, what wobbles comes back soon. You set a daily goal, and when nothing is due the app tells you exactly that instead of inventing work for you. How a round goes is shown on the learning page.

Everything stays on your device. No account, no sign-up, no ads. After the purchase the deck sits in your library like any other subject and can be studied, reordered and extended just like your own.

What it costs, and what it doesn’t

Qardbox itself costs nothing, and it stays that way. Every function is there from the start, with no subscription, no ads and no tiers; what that rests on is on the page about what it costs.

Your own cards stay unlimited, and decks from friends or from the family you read in without a limit, from a file as well. You do not need this deck in order to learn with Qardbox.

It is a shortcut: 315 checked cards for €2.29, once, with Family Sharing. The work you would otherwise do is already done. The App Store shows the price in your currency.
