What is in this deck

With this deck you learn French for a holiday flat at level B2: 180 cards for the sentences that really come up, from handover to complaint.

Un remboursement partiel serait-il envisageable ? You rarely need that sentence, and when you do it has to be exactly that one.

180 cards in eight parts: the cancelled connection, arriving in the middle of the night, la moisissure behind the wardrobe, the request for part of the money back, la caution and what may not be withheld from it.

On the other side stands the thank-you that says something: the tip you name, the reasoned avis, the question about next season's prices.

The categories decide what comes up: start with “Introductions” alone and add the rest when you are ready.

You learn French. The cards, the categories and the usage notes are in English, so you never have to learn through a third language.

What you learn

  • 180 French cards for refunds and reviews
  • Asking for un remboursement partiel
  • Describing damage and weighing it
  • La caution, le justificatif, la responsabilité
  • Raising an objection and holding it

What you get

Here are three of the 180 cards you get when you buy the deck.

With foreign-language content the answers are read aloud as well, so you know how the words and sentences are pronounced.

We are travelling with two small children, so the kitchen mattered to us.

    Answer

Nous voyageons avec deux jeunes enfants, la cuisine comptait donc pour nous.

    Note

[la kɥi.zin kɔ̃.tɛ] · The vowel is spoken through the nose, you do not hear the n itself.

  2. Question

I work from here in the mornings, in the afternoons we are out.

    Answer

Je travaille d'ici le matin, l'après-midi nous sortons.

    Note

[di.si lə ma.tɛ̃] · The vowel is spoken through the nose, you do not hear the n itself.

  3. Question

If you are expecting tradesmen during the day, please tell us in advance.

    Answer

Si vous attendez des artisans dans la journée, dites-le-nous à l'avance.

    Note

[a.tɑ̃.de de.z‿aʁ.ti.zɑ̃] · After the if you use the present, even when you mean the future.

Learning with Qardbox

You see a card, you think, you turn it over and say whether you knew it. A round asks nothing more of you, and how the app works out the next date from that is on the page about FSRS-6.

What sits comes back less often, what wobbles comes back soon. You set a daily goal, and when nothing is due the app tells you exactly that instead of inventing work for you. How a round goes is shown on the learning page.

Everything stays on your device. No account, no sign-up, no ads. After the purchase the deck sits in your library like any other subject and can be studied, reordered and extended just like your own.

What it costs, and what it doesn’t

Qardbox itself costs nothing, and it stays that way. Every function is there from the start, with no subscription, no ads and no tiers; what that rests on is on the page about what it costs.

Your own cards stay unlimited, and decks from friends or from the family you read in without a limit, from a file as well. You do not need this deck in order to learn with Qardbox.

It is a shortcut: 180 checked cards for €1.49, once, with Family Sharing. The work you would otherwise do is already done. The App Store shows the price in your currency.
