What is in this deck

With this deck you learn Italian for a holiday flat at level A1: 180 cards for the sentences that really come up, from handover to complaint.

Dov'è la chiave? That is how every stay begins, and how this deck begins.

180 cards in eight parts, in the order of a journey: introducing yourself, arriving, finding the ingresso and the piano, understanding the rooms, naming what is missing, reporting a breakage, leaving, saying thank you.

The sentences stay short, and 58 words are there to point at: l'asciugamano, la coperta, il frigorifero. On every card the pronunciation separates the open vowels from the closed ones, which the spelling does not show.

The categories decide what comes up: start with “Introductions” alone and add the rest when you are ready.

You learn Italian. The cards, the categories and the usage notes are in English, so you never have to learn through a third language.

What you learn

  • 180 Italian cards for the first days
  • Dov'è la chiave? and what follows
  • Naming the rooms in Italian
  • 58 words with article and stress
  • Open and closed vowels made audible

The categories

8 categories sort the 180 cards. You can filter by category and take on what is due right now.

  1. Introductions
  2. Arrival
  3. The place itself
  4. Problems and missing things
  5. When something breaks
  6. Leaving and keys
  7. Tips for the area
  8. Thanks and coming back

What you get

Here are three of the 180 cards you get when you buy the deck.

With foreign-language content the answers are read aloud as well, so you know how the words and sentences are pronounced.

  1. Question

    Hello!

    Answer

    Buongiorno!

    Note

[bwonˈdʒorno] · The g sounds like the j in “jam” here, not like a hard g.

  2. Question

    Good night!

    Answer

    Buonanotte!

    Note

[bwonaˈnɔtte] · Only said on parting late in the evening, never as a greeting.

  3. Question

    Good evening!

    Answer

    Buonasera!

    Note

[bwonaˈsera] · The evening greeting starts here as early as the afternoon.

Learning with Qardbox

You see a card, you think, you turn it over and say whether you knew it. A round asks nothing more of you, and how the app works out the next date from that is on the page about FSRS-6.

What sits comes back less often, what wobbles comes back soon. You set a daily goal, and when nothing is due the app tells you exactly that instead of inventing work for you. How a round goes is shown on the learning page.

Everything stays on your device. No account, no sign-up, no ads. After the purchase the deck sits in your library like any other subject and can be studied, reordered and extended just like your own.

What it costs, and what it doesn’t

Qardbox itself costs nothing, and it stays that way. Every function is there from the start, with no subscription, no ads and no tiers; what that rests on is on the page about what it costs.

Your own cards stay unlimited, and decks from friends or from the family you read in without a limit, from a file as well. You do not need this deck in order to learn with Qardbox.

It is a shortcut: 180 checked cards for €1.29, once, with Family Sharing. The work you would otherwise do is already done. The App Store shows the price in your currency.
